H.O.Y., a mentor changing organization, emerged as a result of minimal adult mentors available to the county’s youths. There are even fewer adult mentors who are willing or have time to introduce, inspire and teach disadvantaged youths critical business, education, life and daily living skills compulsory to their future.
The “Mentor Divide” has a devastating long-term effect on today’s youths and has repercussions throughout our communities. As a result, children are not living up to their potential, which guarantees that they will be excluded from many opportunities in the future. An entire generation of young people is not able to contribute fully to society because so many youths continue to be misguided or not guided at all.
We know we can do better to support and mentor our young people.
Our mission is to inspire and enable our youths to realize their full potential and help them become responsible, caring, and productive citizens. H.O.Y. empowers youths to trust their capacity to contribute, regard themselves as possessing the inherent ability to surpass personal expectations and accomplish goals.
H.O.Y. provides mentorship activities for high school ages youths, regardless of socio-economic background. We believe that the values and ideas of young people who are willing to get mentoring support and work hard for their futures have lasting and positive effects on our community.
H.O.Y. is zealously committed to see that our youths “keep up” with their more advantaged counterparts. The only way to “permanently” solve problems that are systemic in nature is to provide support from caring adults in mentorship, to provide encouragement, guidance and thoughtful listening and problem solving
